Frequently asked questions

When do AI generated images need to be labelled?

Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires transparency for AI generated content from 2 August 2026; systems already on the market before that date have a transition period until 2 December 2026. Which obligations apply in a given case depends on your role and the content. This tool helps with visible labelling but does not replace legal advice.

What do the official EU icons mean?

The EU provides uniform icons for visibly marking AI generated or AI edited content. This tool places exactly these icons on your images as labels.

Are my images uploaded?

No. All processing runs locally in your browser. Your images never leave your device.

Is metadata such as EXIF preserved?

Yes. EXIF, XMP and IPTC are preserved on export, including machine readable AI markers. Only cryptographic C2PA signatures cannot be carried over because the label changes the image pixels.

What does labelling cost?

Nothing. The tool is free to use, with no sign up and no limit on the number of images.
